‘The Fight For Freedom’ is a rousing number that was clearly written knowing full well there will be hordes of bare chested men with one hand raised aloft and the other clutching a drinking horn while singing every word, followed by ‘ Nessun Dorma’ – possibly one of the worlds’ most famous arias thanks to one Luciano Pavarotti – but wait, that’s not metal! No it’s fucking Manowar, no other band could pull that off. After that, the band start experimenting and showing what else they can do. Opening with ‘ Call to Arms’ the listener can’t deny who is on, that familiar Manowar sound making its way into your brain via a small broadsword. This is the Warriors of the World 10 th Anniversary Edition – Shinier, louder and metaller, possibly the boldest album any band has ever released (and that includes St Anger),has been remastered for your pleasure and with a cheeky live track tagged on the end for good measure it is set to pleasure old and new fans alike. Manowar mean it when they sing about the "House of Death" and how they will "Fight Until We Die," and that's why you should love them, warts and all.Manowar – A name that strikes both fear and joy into the hearts of so many. With just a thunderous chest beat to go before the release of The Lord of Steel Live album, they have dropped a familiar 11 songs about swords and warriors with big epic choruses and healthy contingent of strings. This is Thor-Metal. Fortunately, the disc has enough tracks that do reach higher decibels, including the last four and disc-opener "Call to Arms," that are more indicative of what made Manowar great, namely heavy riffs and heavier attitude that, even when embracing an ethos that many would be embarrassed about, still comes off sincere. In fact, too much of this disc relies on similar cheeseball balladry that, try as it might to be gallant and heroic, really comes off as self-parody. No matter how big a fan of the band someone might be, it's hard to take the operatic "Nessun Dorma" and succeeding power ballad "Valhalla" seriously, as they sound like something Spinal Tap would have thought up when not worrying about amps that went to 11. Like most latter-day Manowar outings, Warriors of the World is a mixed affair rife with all of the clichés that make Manowar either Gods or an amusing joke, depending on what side of the inner circle you reside on.
